⛪️🌆 Postcard-Worthy Views: Basel Minster and Beyond 🌆⛪️

We arrived at Basel SBB railway station after our flight into Frankfurt Airport, making our way through the same building to catch our train. 🚄 Our plan was to dedicate 4-6 hours to exploring AltStadt Basel before continuing our trip to Biel/Bienne, where we had our stay arranged at the Marriott Hotel.

Switching trains had us a tad anxious with a little delay, but our worries paid off when we saw our next train still hanging out at the platform. We grabbed our luggage and raced to make it just in the nick of time before the doors slammed shut. Phew, such a nice run! 😅🚪

Expecting chilly and potentially dreary weather in early March, I was pleasantly surprised by Basel’s ambiance. Despite my expectations for gloomy weather, Basel turned out to be surprisingly bright and calm despite the lack of leaves on the trees and the rainy early spring weather. 🌧️🌆

Our route led us from the station, through the old town, meandering along Elizabethenstrasse and eventually onto Rittergasse, which guided us toward Basel Minster. Dating back to the 9th century, the cathedral’s history is rich with tales of destruction and restoration. After exploring the interior of the cathedral (entrance is free), we took a stroll to the small courtyard behind the cathedral, where there was a serene atmosphere, and the views from there were absolutely postcard-worthy. ⛪🌳

Having soaked in the beautiful architecture, we continued along the familiar street towards the bridge. Crossing it offered a different perspective of Basel, with a good view of the Minster located in the historical downtown area of Grossbasel. The bridge, known as the Wettstein Bridge, led us on a loop around the Altstadt, passing through Rheingasse street and Johanniterbrücke (Bridge). 🌉🚶‍♂️

While Basel boasts numerous museums and cultural attractions, my husband and I aren’t big museum enthusiasts. Instead, we opted for a more relaxed exploration of its streets. As a photographer, I relished the opportunity to capture the essence of this vibrant city, known for its pharmaceutical industry, academic institutions, and rich history. 📸🏙️
