Whimsical and grandiose Neuschwanstein ( Cinderella’s) Castle. 🏰✨

“I want to remain an eternal mystery to myself and others.”
– King Ludwig II

If anyone talks about a fairy-tale castle, he usually means Neuschwanstein. Defently, it’s the stuff dreams are made of!
Castle is built high on a rocky outcrop called the “Jugend” at the edge of the Alps, for whith King LudwigII paid for it from his own personal fortune about 6.2 million marks, or €50 million in today’s money.
The king can be called crazy, wasteful, extravagant, but the determination to bring his fairy-tale world into reality made it possible to implement a project that was stunning in scale at that time. Construction of the Neuschwanstein Castle lasted from 1869 to 1886 and had to be discontinued because of Ludwig’s early death.

These days, Neuschwanstein Castle has been a muse for a man who also dares to chase his dream and created another magical world: Walt Disney. Sleeping Beauty’s Castle and Cinderella’s Castle both drew inspiration from Ludwig’s Neuschwanstein.

The castle inside can only be visited by a guided tour. All information can be found at the Ticket Center Hohenschwangau.
From the parking lot you can reach the castle by walking , shuttle buses or horse carriage. We decided walk up. It’s about a 40 min, 1 mile (1.5 km) walk up a semi-steep hill to the castle.
